ECO-quiz 2024: 3rd edition of the quiz for middle schools on economic citizenship

On the occasion of the Turin International Economics Festival, the Museum of Saving in collaboration with the Foundation for the School of the Company of Sanpaolo and with the Toscanini-Einaudi Comprehensive Institute of Parma, organizes a fun quiz with educational content for students of middle schools.

Eco-Quiz represents an extension to middle schools of the EconoMia project, reserved for students in the last two years of high schools and format of the International Festival of Economics.

The aims of Eco-Quiz 2024

The educational initiative intends to:

  • introduce students to the knowledge of economic issues and the management of scarce resources, whether financial or natural, starting from middle school, thus contributing to the personal and collective cultural growth of the country;
  • encourage the exercise of active citizenship, enriching the civic education curriculum with topics related to economic-financial reality;
  • underline the multidisciplinary nature of economics through dialogue with other subjects;
  • begin to provide young students with useful tools to make choices in a critical and responsible way, also evaluating the reliability of the information they have;
  • help students understand the relationship between money, work and personal and collective well-being.

For this third edition, the contents of the competition focus on the topics of correct evaluation of information and orientation in the world of economic information.

The promoters

The promoters of the educational initiative are: Torino Local Committee (TOLC), Editore Laterza, Foundation for the Company of San Paolo School, Museum of Saving, Toscanini-Einaudi Comprehensive Institute of Parma, AEEE-Italy.

The recipients

Eco-Quiz 2024 is open to middle school students.

Admission requirements

Middle school classes throughout Italy can access the initiative after completing the membership form.

A precondition for participation is that the classes involved have the possibility of connecting to the Internet and have an IWB to follow the lesson online and access the platform used to carry out the Quiz. In the case of remote teaching, both the lessons and the Eco-Quiz can also be enjoyed from home, having the availability of an electronic device and Internet connection.

The object of the educational initiative

The registered classes will benefit from an online lesson organized by the Museum of Saving in which, through a series of in-depth studies and the use of a dedicated gaming app, the topics subsequently covered by the quiz will be addressed. In particular, the insights will encourage reflection on the issues of infodemic, information symmetry and biases that prevent a correct evaluation of information, including economic information. The app will allow you to immediately test your understanding of the concepts covered and the use of the information with a playful exercise.

The prize

All Eco-quiz participants will receive the original animated GIFs of the Museum of Saving as a gift.

First place class: free educational visit to the Museum of Saving in Turin with travel expenses covered up to a maximum amount of 1,000 euros, to be organized during the International Festival of Economics (30 May – 2 June 2024)

*If the travel costs account for a lower amount, the difference will be paid via voucher for the purchase of useful materials for the school.

**If it is not possible to organize the visit in person, a voucher of the same amount will be provided for the purchase of useful materials for the school.

Second and third classified classes: gadgets from the Museum of Saving

The Content Supervision Committee

The Content Supervision Committee is made up of a representative of the Museum of Saving and a representative of the Toscanini-Einaudi Comprehensive Institute of Parma. Its function is to select and formulate the multiple-choice questions proposed in the Eco-Quiz.

The test

(1) In the event that the students registered for the quiz exceed 2000 units, two qualification sessions will be carried out in parallel. The top 5 classified per session will advance to the final.

Evaluation of the test

Participation in the Eco-Quiz will take place individually, through an electronic device (mobile phone, tablet or PC) owned or made available by the school. To protect the privacy of participants, teachers will be asked to match the students’ names with alphanumeric codes that allow the winners of the race to be identified.

The winners will be identified automatically via the game software, which will reward those who answer correctly in the shortest time possible. The individual winners will allow the class to which they belong to access the next phase and receive the assigned prizes.

The awards ceremony
