EDUFIN AND HISTORY: from taxes on shadows to those on soap: discovering the most imaginative taxes – high schools

Wednesday, October 9, at 11:00, the Museum of Saving offers high schools the online event “EDUFIN AND HISTORY: from taxes on shadows to those on soap: discovering the most imaginative taxes”.

Financial education meets history

A series of events to understand finance through history

From the pyramids of Egypt to Roman aqueducts, from imperial palaces to great wars, governments of all ages have always been looking for money to carry out major works and expeditions.

How? Through taxes and duties requested from citizens, sometimes even bizarre ones.

Over the centuries, in fact, there are many examples of rather extravagant taxes, such as the tax on cooking oil in ancient Egypt, the special tax on the purchase of soap in the Middle Ages, or the tax on wigs at the end of the 18th century.

In this appointment of the Edufin and History cycle, with Alessandro Giraudo, economist and writer, we will remember the function and usefulness of taxes, discovering which were the most curious in different historical periods.
