NO MORE VICTIMS – how to recognize different forms of gender-based violence

When people talk about violence against women, they mainly think of physical and psychological forms, but gender-based violence can also be related to economic aspects: Women who experience this kind of discrimination generally do not realize that tight economic control by men already configures a form of violence.

Economic violence is a crime. Women who are more financially aware can recognize it and possibly address it through help outside the family circle.

The Museum of Saving, in collaboration with Stati Generali delle Donne and CUG INPS, is offering a series of four online appointments to promote the debate on the topic of gender-based violence, with a focus on economic violence.

SOCIAL FRAGILITY AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Lack of work and economic autonomy can become particularly insidious in the case of women in socially vulnerable conditions, who in the absence of their own financial resources must rely completely on their partners and are thus more exposed to forms of coercion and abuse.

A good awareness of one’s own capabilities and learning how to administer one’s own life in these cases can really make a difference.

WOMEN’S FINANCIAL EDUCATION

The lack of financial education in Italy is particularly prevalent among women, just as their appetite for risk and their autonomy in managing investments is generally low.

There are women who have winning ideas and great potential, but who fail to realize their dreams due to a lack of knowledge of financial aspects. The risk in this case is that they end up in the wrong hands, relying on unserious advisors, or even worse, failing to achieve their life goals.
