ECO-Quiz 2026: 5th edition of the economic citizenship quiz for middle schools students

On the occasion of the International Festival of Economics in Turin, the Museum of Saving, in collaboration with Fondazione per la Scuola, is organizing an engaging educational quiz for first- and second-year middle school students.

Eco-Quiz extends to middle schools the experience of the EconoMia Competition, traditionally reserved for students in the final two years of high school and part of the Festival’s official program.

The aims of Eco-Quiz

Developed with particular attention to the learning outcomes and specific learning objectives included in the recent Guidelines for the teaching of Civic Education, which highlight economic development and sustainability as one of the three key conceptual areas, Eco-Quiz aims to:

  • introduce students to the knowledge of economic topics and the management of scarce resources, whether financial or natural, already from the years of the first cycle, thus contributing to the personal and collective cultural growth of the country;
  • support students in the path that leads them to become responsible, autonomous, aware and engaged citizens in an increasingly complex and constantly changing society, providing them with useful tools to make choices in a critical and responsible way, also evaluating the reliability of the information available to them;
  • help students understand the relationship between money, work and personal and collective well-being;
  • underline the multidisciplinary nature of economics through dialogue among different disciplines.

For this fifth edition, the contents of the competition focus on the acquisition of the skills necessary to manage risks that may arise during life and have an impact on our economic situation, illustrating the strategies to protect ourselves (e.g., planning, social security, insurance instruments).

Target participants

Eco-Quiz is open to students in the first and second years of middle school.

Admission requirements

First- and second-year middle school classes from all over Italy may access the initiative after completing the registration form.

A precondition for participation is that the classes involved have the possibility to connect to the Internet and are equipped with an interactive whiteboard in order to attend the online lesson and access the platform used to carry out the Quiz.

The subject of the educational initiative

The classes that register will benefit from an online lesson delivered by the Museum of Saving in which, through a series of in-depth analyses and the use of animated videos and video interviews, the topics that will subsequently be the subject of the quiz will be addressed.

In particular, the in-depth analyses will encourage reflection on the themes of risk management and unexpected events that impact the personal and family budget, as well as on the instruments and strategies to protect oneself (e.g., planning, social security, insurance).

The prize

  • First classified class: free educational visit to the Museum of Saving in Turin with coverage of travel expenses up to a maximum amount of €1,000, to be organized during the days of the International Festival of Economics (October 2026).*
  • Second and third classified classes: Museum of Saving gadget set.

*Should travel expenses amount to less than this figure, the difference may be used for the purchase of educational materials.

The Content Supervision Committee

The Content Supervision Committee is composed of one representative of the Museum of Saving, one representative of Fondazione per la Scuola and one representative of the Toscanini-Einaudi Comprehensive Institute of Parma. Its function is to select and formulate the multiple-choice questions proposed in the Eco-Quiz.

Evaluation

Participation in the Eco-Quiz will take place by class through a single electronic device (mobile phone, tablet or PC) owned by the teacher or made available by the school. In order to protect the privacy of participants, teachers will be required to identify themselves using an alphanumeric code to be created according to the instructions provided by the organizers.

The winners will be identified automatically through the game software, which will reward the class that answers correctly in the shortest possible time. The first ten classes classified in the qualifying round will access the final round.
